AROFLEX ATL14-1 Friction Disc Torque Limiter
Compact Slip-Type Torque Protection for Small Industrial Drives
The AROFLEX ATL14-1 is a compact, reliable friction disc torque limiter designed to protect industrial drive systems from overloads, shock loads and machine jams.
It works like a mechanical fuse. When the driven machine exceeds the pre-set torque value, the spring-loaded friction facings allow the drive to slip rather than transferring the overload into the gearbox, motor, shaft or connected equipment.
The “-1” designation refers to the single disc spring configuration, giving the ATL14-1 a lower adjustable torque range for lighter-duty overload protection applications.
Because the ATL14-1 is a slip-type torque limiter, the drive remains connected during an overload. This makes it especially useful for applications where short nuisance jams or high-inertia starts may occur, without always needing a full mechanical reset.
Key Features
Reliable overload protection
The ATL14-1 helps protect expensive drive components by allowing controlled slip when the torque setting is exceeded.
1-spring torque setting
The ATL14-1 is supplied with a single-disc spring arrangement, giving an adjustable torque range of 2.94 Nm to 9.81 Nm
Fully adjustable and resettable
Torque is adjusted using the 32mm A/F adjusting nut, allowing the ATL14-1 to be set to suit lighter-duty applications. Once the overload is cleared, the drive can continue without replacing shear pins or sacrificial components.
Compact design
With a 50mm outside diameter and 14mm maximum bore, the ATL14-1 is well suited to smaller conveyors, light machinery, indexing systems and compact drive assemblies.
UK-machined ready-to-fit options
AROFLEX ATL14-1 unit can be supplied fully machined to suit your shaft size, including bore and keyway machining, and can be pre-assembled with a platewheel, sprocket or coupling option where required.
Compatibility reference
The ATL14-1 may be suitable for applications using Morse 200M1 style friction torque limiters, subject to dimensional and torque-range checks.
Morse names are used for identification and compatibility reference only. AROFLEX products are not manufactured, approved by, or affiliated with the respective trademark owners.

Sprocket, Pulley & Coupling Compatibility
The ATL14-1 can be used with sprockets, pulleys or coupling arrangements depending on the drive layout.
For chain drive applications, the recommended minimum sprocket sizes are:
| Chain Size |
Minimum Recommended Sprocket |
| 06B / 3⁄8″ chain |
18 tooth |
| 08B / 1⁄2″ chain |
15 tooth |
These minimum sizes help provide clearance around the adjustment springs.
The ATL14-1 can also be used with:
| Drive Type |
Compatibility |
| Chain sprockets / platewheels |
Minimum 18T for 06B chain or 15T for 08B chain |
| V-pulleys |
Minimum 63mm PCD SPA pulley |
| Timing pulleys |
Down to 24 tooth, 5mm pitch |
| Chain coupling |
ATLC 14 option |
| Rubber/jaw coupling |
ATLR 14 option |
Timing pulleys, sprockets, platewheels and pulleys must be correctly machined to suit the ATL14-1 pilot diameter and friction contact faces. We can supply these components machined and assembled as a ready-to-fit torque limiter package where required.
For inline shaft-to-shaft applications, the ATL14-1 can be paired with an ATLC chain coupling or ATLR rubber/jaw coupling arrangement.
Precision Machining Matters
Every AROFLEX ATL14-1 hub is machined to support a secure, accurate shaft fit.
The bore is machined to an H7 Precision Transition Fit, with a JS9 keyway tolerance. This helps reduce shaft movement, key-roll, vibration and the mechanical “shucking” that can occur when the bore or keyway fit is too loose.
For customers who want a unit ready to install, we can supply the ATL14 fully machined to your shaft size and pre-assembled with the required centre member.
Typical lead time for bespoke machined, ready-to-fit units is 3 to 5 working days.
Important Safety Note
The ATL14-1 is designed to slip during an overload, but it should not be allowed to slip continuously for long periods.
If the unit may slip for more than 5 to 10 seconds, an automatic motor shut-off system should be fitted, such as an EM1 or EM2 limit switch.
Continuous slipping can generate extreme heat and may damage the friction facings, centre member or surrounding equipment. In severe cases, prolonged slipping can create a fire risk.
For applications where a jam may not clear immediately, we strongly recommend pairing the torque limiter with a limit switch to stop the motor automatically.
Typical Applications
The AROFLEX ATL14-1 is suitable for lighter-duty drive protection applications, including:
| Application Type |
Typical Use |
| Light conveyors |
Protection from product jams or blockages |
| Packaging machinery |
Slip protection during intermittent overloads |
| Small chain drives |
Overload protection for sprocket-driven equipment |
| Pulley drives |
Protection from overloads and stalled driven equipment |
| Indexing systems |
Controlled torque protection |
| Inline shaft drives |
Torque protection when used with ATLC or ATLR coupling assemblies |
