Metal Shielded Deep Groove Ball Bearings: One of the most commonly used bearing types, these are manufactured with metal shields inserted into the outer raceway. The shields fit closely to the inner race, providing protection against light mechanical damage and offering limited protection from the ingress of moisture, dust, and other contaminants. They also serve to retain the pre-filled grease, making the bearing effectively maintenance-free for most applications.
Shields can be removed for applications that do not require shielding on both sides or where only one side needs protection. These bearings are ideal for general engineering, electric motors, pumps, fans, and other machinery operating in clean to moderately contaminated environments.
