Our in-house machine shop has expanded its gear cutting capacity, giving us the ability to manufacture a wider range of sprockets, gears, and timing pulleys than ever before. Whether you need a replacement part for obsolete machinery or a custom-engineered component for a new application, our team can now handle jobs ranging from small precision gears through to large industrial sprockets up to 54″ in diameter.
What we can now cut
Our updated gear cutting fleet includes a range of dedicated hobbing and gear cutting machines, each suited to different sizes and tooth profiles:
- Sunderland 19 – our largest capacity machine, capable of cutting spur gears up to 56″ x 9″ x 1.5DP (1420mm x 225mm x Mod.16), helical and double helical gears up to 56″ with a 10″ face width, spiral gears up to 60° at 1.5″ normal pitch, and sprockets up to 54″ diameter.
- Sunderland 5A – for spur and helical gears up to 4″ face width and 9 MOD.
- Sykes V14 Hobber – for helical and spur gears up to 13″ external diameter, 8″ face, and 7 D.P. (4 MOD) pitch.
- Barber Colman Hobbers – three machines covering spurs and splines up to 12″ diameter, spurs and helicals up to 3 D.P. x 14″ diameter, and a smaller unit for spurs and helicals up to 6″ diameter.
This range means we’re equally capable of producing small precision components for compact drive systems as we are large industrial gears and sprockets for heavy machinery.
Beyond standard parts
In addition to standard gears, sprockets, and timing pulleys, our machine shop regularly produces special and bespoke components such as brackets, shaping rings, scrapers, dough ball divider segments, nib tensioning rollers, and other custom gears designed to your exact specification. If a part is obsolete, discontinued, or no longer manufactured, our engineering team can reverse-engineer and remanufacture it in-house.
