Beam Couplings
Aroflex Helical Beam Couplings, Zero Backlash for Encoders, Servo motors and Tachometers.
The Aroflex Helical Beam coupling transmits torque between two shafts while allowing angular misalignment, parallel offset and axial motion, of one shaft relative to the other. Made from a single piece of material, the Beam style coupling does not exhibit the backlash found in some multi-piece couplings. The advantage of it being an all-machined coupling is it incorporates features into the final product while still keeping its single piece integrity.
The material used to manufacture the beam coupling also affects its performance and suitability for specific applications such as food, medical and aerospace. As standard they are manufactured form aluminium and stainless steel, but they can also be made in Acetal and Titanium. The most common applications are attaching Encoders shafts and motion control for Robotics.
These flexible couplings feature larger body size and stronger beams to provide high torque capacity and very low windup, while not sacrificing misalignment capabilities. The demanding nature of reversing servo applications make the performance benefits delivered by beam couplings vital to maintaining the reliability, accuracy and repeatability of the system.
